MATTHEW ANKLAN 

 

Matthew Anklan serves as the Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz at Wright State University, where he conducts the jazz ensemble and teaches applied trumpet.

He is the Lead Trumpet player of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Byron Stripling and a founding member and Lead Trumpeter of the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Anklan has also performed regularly as a section extra and as the principal/lead trumpet with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops, appearing on several recordings, including the 2024 release American Dreams.

Anklan has collaborated with many notable artists, including Aretha Franklin, Jacob Collier, The Who, Iron & Wine, Common, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Hugh Jackman, Jason Scheff, The O'Jays, Paul Shaffer, Regis Philbin, The Temptations, and more. He has also shared the stage with jazz luminaries such as Maria Schneider, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Gregory Porter, Lew Soloff, Frank Sinatra Jr., Tito Puente Jr., Jimmy Heath, Bob Belden, Gerald Wilson, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and others.

In addition to his extensive career in live performance, Anklan has participated in over 500 recording sessions. Projects include sessions for major TV networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, HGTV, Hallmark, and ESPN. He can be heard on numerous studio albums across various genres and on video game soundtracks for the likes of Marvel Universe, EA Sports, Disney, and others. Additionally, he has recorded themes for NPR programming, theme parks, and cruise lines.
