MATTHEW ANKLAN
Matthew Anklan currently serves as the Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz at Wright State University where he conducts the jazz ensemble and teaches applied trumpet.
He is the Lead Trumpet player of the acclaimed Columbus Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Byron Stripling. Anklan is also a founding member and Lead Trumpeter of the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. Anklan has also served as a regular section extra and principal/lead trumpet with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops and appears on several recordings, including the 2024 release American Dreams.
Anklan has performed with many notable artists including Aretha Franklin, Jacob Collier, The Who, Iron and Wine, Common, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Hugh Jackman, Jason Scheff, The O'Jays, Paul Shaffer, Regis Philbin, The Temptations, and more. He has also performed with jazz luminaries such as Maria Schneider, John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton, Gregory Porter, Lew Soloff, Frank Sinatra Jr., Tito Puente Jr., Jimmy Heath, Bob Belden, Gerald Wilson, the Glen Miller Orchestra, and others.
In addition to an extensive career in live performance, Anklan has performed on well over 500 recording sessions. Projects include sessions for TV networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, HGTV, Hallmark, and ESPN. He appears on numerous studio albums of all genres, and can be heard on video game soundtracks for the likes of Marvel Universe, EA Sports, Disney, and others. He has also recorded themes for NPR programs.
Matthew Anklan also contributes as music producer and mix engineer. He has composed and produced tracks for BMW, Swiffer, TV Commercials, YouTube ads, and more. Anklan boasts over 1000 titles to his credit spanning every imaginable style. One of Anklan's productions, Spara: One Night, spent three weeks on the billboard top 10, charting at #7.
Matthew Anklan earned his MM in Trumpet Performance, Jazz Studies from The College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he also earned his BM.
